| Tax Returns Tips |
After finalizing your taxes, do not make hurry in submitting
the tax online, before submitting or hitting send button, ensure
that it's really ready to go by performing a last minute review.
Before finalizing your taxes, check below tips and make sure
that your paper work of tax returns is error-free.
- Use sticky notes: Most of the taxpayers still fill the
returns in paper form. If you're one of them, always use
the sticky label. Simply highlight the bad information and
make corrections on the label, if there is anything wrong
in it. If you don't have the sticky notes then also write
in the requested information clearly.
- Social Security number: Always enter your Social Security
number in the box provided on the return. In case of combine
filing (you and your spouse), enter tax ID numbers of both
of you.
- Filing status: Ensure to check filing status is only one.
That is what gives you the most tax advantage.
- Exemptions: It is advisable to count all your allowable
exemptions. All of your dependents you claim on your return
are directly translated into an exemption, a specific dollar
amount you can subtract from your adjusted gross income.
As your income amount is less, the tax will also decrease.
Most important thing, make sure that you have written correct
Social Security number of each listed person. Without it,
the exemption can disallowed.
- W-2 wage statements: Attach your W-2 wage statement, incase
of filing a paper return, If your 1099 forms show that you
had tax withheld from those account then attach that too.
In case of e-file, double check that correctly amounts from
these forms are entered.
- Paper Sequence: In case of filing a paper 1040 or 1040A
assemble them in the right order. There is sequence number
at right hand corner of each attachment, put them in that
order and staple them to your return.
- Check Payable: If you you owe tax, then make sure your
check or money order payable to the United States Treasury,
and write down all information like your name, address,
Social Security number, daytime phone number and note in
the memo area that it's payment for 2006 Form 1040 (or 1040A
or 1040EZ) behind the check. Do not staple your return envelop.
When a stapled check is pulled off, other attachments could
come loose, too. Tracking them down will slow the processing
of your return.
